This lesson is organized so that the student may go through the various steps presented in the process section and read various works of Edgar Allan Poe.  While doing that they will be identifying various elements of literature found in these works and finally create their own story or poem.

It may necessary to allow a week to perform this assignment effectively but the main teaching could be done in a single class period with reviews of different literary elements done throughout the week.  It is a single disciplinary lesson and students can work individually.

The students may stumble over elements if they have not been introduced to them yet or do not remember much about them so review may indeed be necessary.

A novice teacher may be able to pull this lesson off but it may require knowledge of or access to information about the literary elements and the genre of mystery and/or horror.
